New Literacy for Sustainable Development 2030 (NEW LIFE 2030)

Projektdauer:

31.12.17 bis 29.06.20

Kurzinhalt:

Education for Sustainable Development is a vital component of national and international curricula. However, merely being part of a curriculum will not suffice for the implementation at schools and universities. Sustainability rather has to become a significant and motivating aspect for teachers. To achieve this, Education for Sustainable Development has to be raised to a higher value in teacher training at the universities and further training of teachers at school. As a consequence, interdisciplinary seminars, in which sustainability and its didactics are taught, have to be developed and realized. These seminars should also serve as a platform for exchanging the latest research, concepts and best practice examples.
Since sustainability is a global topic, Education for Sustainable Development can only be addressed internationally. To ensure the international success of the project and to address the needs and conditions of each participating country, the exchange of ideas among teachers and students from different countries is essential. As a first step, dialogues should begin with personal meetings, exchanging best practice examples to create a basis for the following seminars and further teacher trainings. In the following, virtual collaboration via internet platforms will ensure constant exchange of information. To facilitate cooperation, certain seminars would be synchronized in terms of content and time in all participating universities. In the course of the project, the seminars will be evaluated and adapted accordingly. The subject biology will serve as an exemplary model, as sustainability can and should be integrated into other subjects in the following.
Furthermore, an innovative network connecting teacher education at the universities and the further training of teachers at school will be established to distribute Education for Sustainable Development throughout the educational institutions. As a consequence, high quality teaching material for Education for Sustainable Development will be developed not only for the participating universities and schools but for the implementation at all universities and schools of each country.
